FAQs
-
Do you work with couples?
Working with couples is not part of my expertise. However, I can offer referral to other providers who specialize in couples therapy.
-
Do you take insurance?
I do not contract with insurance companies, and am therefore considered an Out-of-Network Provider. If your insurance company provides reimbursements for Out-of-Network services, I am happy to provide the appropriate documentation of service. FSA/HSA accounts may be used for payment.
-
How much does an appointment cost?
Initial intake appointments are 90 minutes in length at a rate of $240. Regular ongoing sessions are 60 minutes in length and $150 each. Payment is due at the time of service. I accept cash, check, credit card, and FSA/HSA payments.

Is what we discuss confidential?
Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. As a licensed professional, it is a standard around which my practice is built. There are certain circumstances in which confidentiality can not be guaranteed and these limitations are discussed in the first session. Confidentiality, while a legal and ethical standard, is also critical in creating a trusting environment for you to do the work necessary to reach your goals.
-
How often will I meet with my therapist?
Clients generally meet weekly or every other week. Ultimately, the frequency of appointments will be determined together between you and your therapist. It will be based on your needs and goals and be reviewed periodically for any needed adjustments.

What do the initials LMFT mean?
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Licensure standards vary from state to state. I completed coursework to earn my Masters Degree in the study of Marriage & Family Therapy from a COAMFTE accredited institution. Then, for a period of 2+ years I accrued the required post graduate training hours while under the supervision of a seasoned therapist who is also an approved supervisor. Finally, I took and passed, with a more than satisfactory score, the standardized exam to earn the LMFT credential. Annually, I also take continuing education to maintain my status as a fully licensed provider.

What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an integrative psychotherapy approach that facilitates the processing of negative experiences that are causing problems or emotional distress in a person’s day-to-day life. Unlike in therapies that require a person to speak in detail or do homework about negative or traumatic events they’ve experienced, through EMDR clients are able to process memories while only briefly attending to them. This is achieved through bilateral stimulation (usually eye movements), while the client holds certain aspects of an event in mind. As a result, the negative emotions and reactions tied to that memory or thought become less intense and the brain is able to resume its natural healing process.

What is PEAT?
Prime Energy Activation and Transcendence (PEAT) is a “spiritual technology” based approach created by Zivorad Slavinski. In PEAT theory, the strong polar or dualistic states that we experience around our deepest problems (such as: good and bad, right and wrong, able and unable, powerful and powerless, love and hate) create blocked or trapped energy. PEAT therapy involves using slight pressure on the body’s acupuncture points to help release that trapped energy, neutralizing the polarities that have kept a person stuck.

Will you be a Facebook friend or part of my social media network?
No. It is my goal to provide the highest quality service as your therapist. Adding clients as friends on social networking sites can blur the boundaries of and compromise the therapeutic relationship.
